He obtained his MBBCh from King Abdulaziz University Medical College, Jeddah in 1992. He joined the department of Internal Medicine at KFSH & RC as a resident in the Arab Board program from 1993 to 1995 then he was honored a scholarship to Canada by the Heath Affairs in National Guards. He completed his residency training program at University of Mannitoba in Winnipeg, Canada in 1998 (1996 to 1998) and the fellowship training program in pulmonary and critical care at University of Mannitoba, Canada in 2001. During this period, he obtained the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1999, The Royal College of Physician and Surgeon of Canada specialist certificate of Internal Medicine in 2000. Subsequently, he obtained the American Board of Pulmonary Medicine and the Canadian Board of Pulmonary/Respiratory Medicine in 2001 then the American Board of Critical Care Medicine and the Canadian Critical Care Medicine Fellowship in 2002.

In 2000, he was appointed as Consultant Intensivist and Pulmonologist, Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of Mannitoba, Winnipeg, Canada as well as Acting Director of Intensive Care Unit at Grace General Hospital.

He joined the Department of Medicine at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Western region in 2002 as a Consultant, Critical Care and Pulmonary Medicine and he was in charged of the High Dependency Unit/Medical ICU. In 2003 till present, he was appointed as Deputy Chairman, Intensive Care Department and in December 2009, he was also appointed as Director, Ambulatory Care Center (Services). He is also the Chairman, Saudi Arabian for Venous Thrombo Embolism (SAVTE) since 2008.
