Hatem Al Ameri, MD, FRCPC, FCCP

Dr. Al Ameri earned his MD degree from the Sultan Qaboos University from the Sultanate of Oman in 1994. He completed his internal medicine residency in 2000 from McGill University in Montreal Canada. In 2002, Dr. Al Ameri completed his fellowship in pulmonary medicine from the same university.

Upon completion of his studies in Canada, Dr. Al Ameri moved to Saudi Arabia where he worked as an assistant professor of medicine and consultant pulmonologist in King Khalid University hospital while chairing the pulmonary physiology and exercise laboratory in King Saud University. During his 5 years in Saudi Arabia, Dr. Al Ameri held several academic positions including undergraduate coordinator for the King Saud University College of Medicine and program director of the internal medicine residency program. In 2006, Dr. Al Ameri received the "best teacher" and "best academic achievement" distinction awarded by King Saud University. Dr. Al Ameri served as a member on several academic committees. These included the college post graduate and undergraduate medical education committee, the regional internal medicine residency committee, and the Saudi commission of medical specialties postgraduate committee.

In 2007, Dr. Al Ameri returned to his native country of the United Arab Emirates where he worked as a Consultant Pulmonologist and Chief of Pulmonary Services at Mafraq Hospital, Abu Dhabi. In 2008, Dr. Al Ameri became the deputy Chairman of Academic Affairs (subsequently promoted to Chairman in 2009) where he was responsible for overseeing all residency and internship training programs within the hospital.

In 2009, Dr. Al Ameri was selected by the Health Authority Abu Dhabi to head their Post Graduate Education Section, the primary regulatory body for all post graduate training in the nation’s largest Emirate. In addition to his role in the Health Authority and in 2011 he was promoted to the manager position for the health professional licensing department at the authority. Dr. Alameri maintains his primary passion for clinical medicine and continues to care for patients in his pulmonary clinic.
